In your journal, continue your sentence practice with noun and verb phrases. Write at least one of each of the noun phrases discussed in the unit (prepositional phrase, absolute phrase, and appositive phrase) and at least two of each of the verb phrases (infinitive phrase and participial phrase). You will, therefore, write at least seven sentences for this journal activity. As in the first assignment, underline the phrase in each sentence and consider its function in both as a modifier and an aspect of your writing style.

The traffic roaring in the background, she realized she needed to do something about the noise level if she were ever going have a peaceful yard.
The solution called for a water feature, an endeavor that could be expensive.
To reduce the cost, she decided on a do-it-yourself water fountain.
She found she could use a large ceramic outdoor bowl she had on hand to cut the monetary outgo even further.
Jotting down several more improvements, a course of action began to form.
Excited by her plans, she headed for the nearest home improvement store.

Locating the rocks whose color would compliment the fountain's basin was not going to be easy.
The rocks, which were holding up parts of another water feature, would have to be replaced before they could be used for the new fountain.
After she placed the rocks at the bottom to anchor the pump, the pump spray head no longer fell over.
Even if the new fountain had not been needed the rocks used in the old water feature it would have been a good idea to find new ones as the old ones were not doing a very good job.
Because it was so much trouble putting the fountain together, she decided that next time she would just buy on already made,
